What is Volunteers Around the World?

 

A non-profit organization dedicated to providing medication and free medical care to underserved populations in Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, and the Philippines.
What do VAW at UCI do?

 

Every summer, we bring a group of volunteers to one of our country sites to perform a Medical Outreach. Volunteers will get the opportunity to shadow local doctors, perform basic triage, teach public health classes, staff the pharmacy, and experience fun activities the country has to offer.
How long is the trip? When is it?

 

The Medical Outreach program lasts for 2 weeks (15 days and 14 nights). The trip is during the summer. (Exact Trip Date TBD)

What does a typical day look like?

 

  • 6:00-7:00AM - Wake up and eat breakfast
  • 7:00-8:00AM - Travel to mobile clinic
  • 8:00-9:00AM - Arrive at location and set up clinic
  • 9:00AM-4:00PM - Mobile clinic
  • 4:00-5:00PM - Head back to volunteer lodging
  • 5:00PM-6:00PM - Free time
  • 6:00PM-7:00PM - Dinner
  • 7:00PM-9:00PM - Nightly meeting and information input
  • 9:00PM-6:00AM - Rest and relax for the next day (free time)
